2015

Friday 3rd July 2015

Liverpool Town Hall

A Report by Derek Maylor, Chair of the NW BTU Health & Safety Co-ord

There are events around the UK every year on 3rd. July to raise awareness of mesothelioma, to call for better treatment and care for mesothelioma patients, for prevention of exposure to asbestos and to ban the export of asbestos to developing countries; Merseyside and Cheshire again combined to hold a joint event addressed by Dr. Helen Clayson and Dr. Chris Warburton.

Support from local councils was evident with Mayors from St Helens, Halton, Sefton, Wirral as well as Liverpool. A packed town hall listened to speakers and questions from supporters, carers and mesothelioma sufferers.

The days event was taken outside for a one minutes perfectly observe silence to remember the 38 people - including 30 Britons - killed in the Tunisia beach attack a week ago and to see a sponsored dove release by pupils from a New Brighton School.

Guidance is available from the Asbestos Victims Support Group whose main purpose is to work collectively to provide one voice for asbestos victims.
