CWU Annual Conference H&S Events Announced

Major stalls and a full health & safety fringe meeting have been announced by CWU's National Health & Safety Officer, Dave Joyce.

Focusing on Men's Health, one of the main stands includes information and advice on a number of subjects that men traditionally are not very good at dealing with: male cancers, depression, Stress, and high blood pressure.

The Men’s Health Forum (MHF) will be present at CWU Conference for a second year and welcome CWU delegates along to the stand to discuss what can be done about the current situation in the UK of too many men suffering unnecessarily poor health and dying too young from preventable causes. Information resources will be available on the stand as will copies of the MHF's award winning Men's health manuals and mini-manuals.

The lunch time fringe meeting, now a regular feature of CWU annual conference, will be held on Monday 4 June at 1 pm in the Meyrick Suite, BIC. The main speaker will be Lord McKenzie of Luton - Government Health and Safety Minister.

The Stroke Association will also have a stand at conference. The organisation work to prevent strokes by raising awareness of the risk factors and provide practical help to people who have had strokes, including their families. Each year over 130,000 people in England and Wales have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation. Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.

Full details of the stand and events in Dave Joyce's LTB, along with the Conference 2007 Agendas, are available in the members only section. Access here
