Health & Safety (Offences) Bill Killed Off By Tory Opposition

Wayne David MP presented a bill to parliament earlier this year which was intended to amend section 33 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and raise the maximum fine that may be imposed in the lower courts to £20,000 for most health and safety offences.

It also intedned to make imprisonment an option for health and safety offences and make certain offences able to be heard in either the lower or the higher courts.

Whislt initially agreeign with the bill, the Tories changed their minds and opposed it, ensuring the Bill would fall through lack of Parliamentary time. Despite the bill easilly being heard in one day, ahd there been no oposition, it is now up the Government to bring forward such a Bill themselves.
