CWU NW Safety Forum Submits Evidence To HSE/HSC Merger Enquiry

Derek Maylor, Communication Workers Union NW Safety Forum (also chair's the BTU NW H&S Co-ord) submitted evidence to the - the inquiry into the operations and work of the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and the proposals to merge the two bodies

In summary Derek raised a number of key items that the Forum would like to see:

* further investment in HSE Inspectors
* more inspections
* closer working with LA’s and USR’s regionally
* HSE investigation of RTA’s
* realistic and more imaginative penalties for non compliance.

When all the evidence has been gathered and examined, Derek may well be called to give further evidence in support of the CW NW Safety Forum's submission at the select committee dealing with the issue of the future merger of the HSE and HSC.

The CWU NW Safety Forum represents 32,843 members of the Communication Workers Union in the North West who mainly work for Royal Mail, BT, O2 and the Alliance & Leicester.
