Co-ord Responds To Corporate Manslaughter Penalties Consultation Exercise

Responding to 16 specific questions, Derek Maylor, chair person on behalf of the NW BTU Health & Safety Co-ordinators Committee, has taken part in the Governments consultation exercise seeking views on the proposed new penalties in proven corporate manslaughter cases. Arguing that current arrangements are ambiguous, with unrealistic penalties and a lack of consistency from the judiciary, the full response document can be read on line.

In Summary, the forum would like to see:

  • demonstrative close working with the relevant safety authorities and trade unions
  • realistic and more imaginative penalties for non compliance
  • courts to be reminded of their option for disqualification
  • fines to be from a reasonable level which is not currently applied under separate legislation

  • You can read the full response from the Derek on behalf of the NW BTU H&S Co-ord here
