HSE Updates Key Risks In Motor Vehicle Repair

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has recently updated its information on key risks for body shop workers and mechanics in the motor vehicle repair (MVR) industry.

According to the HSE, there have been over 8000 injuries and 24 deaths in the MVR industry over the last five years.
The MVR sector covers:

  • mechanical repairs
  • tyre and exhaust fitting
  • bodyshops (refinishing)
  • valeting
  • windscreen repair
  • replacement MOT garages
  • small and medium-area repair technique (SMART) operations
  • roadside recovery

The HSE is keen to emphasise aspects such as learning how to work safely and reducing the risk of accident, injury and exposure to harmful substances, such as isocyanate paint mist.
The updated website area is presented in four sections, as follows.

  1. Current issues in MVR, focusing on issues that have arisen over the last couple of years as well as some perennial problems that require attention in the industry.
  2. Priorities for all MVR organisations.
  3. Bodyshops.
  4. Mechanical repair.
