HSE Launches Shattered Lives 2009 Campaign

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced it is to launch its new 2009 Shattered Lives campaign in order to raise awareness of the issue of slips, trips and falls at work.

Shattered Lives website picThe aim of the campaign is to focus attention on the key risks and help those involved to take simple action that will prevent slips, trips and falls.

The new campaign includes an on-line learning tool called STEP.

Developed by the HSE, STEP is an eLearning package, providing slips and trips guidance through interactive learning.

It is an easy way to learn about slips and trips, how they are caused, why preventing them is important and how to tackle them.

STEP includes quizzes, videos, animations, case studies and interactive sequences to enhance the learning experience.

Completing this package will aid understanding of slips and trips, but to reduce accidents you will also need to take action in your workplace.

The HSE has recently produced a pack of A4 “cling” stickers, with the Shattered Lives campaign slogan, which can be displayed in the work environment in order to reinforce and personalise the safety message of its campaign.

The clear, see-through poster can ideally be affixed to mirrors to reflect back to the viewer that they could be the one with a “shattered life,” should risks fail to be adequately controlled. The stickers can also be used on surfaces such as windows and glass partitions in offices.
