Health & Safety Programme For CWU Annual Conference Announced

Sunday June 7th sees the start of the CWU's week long annual conference, being held in Bournemouth this year.

The annual event for all CWU Union Safety Reps has just been announced by Dave Joyce, the union's National Health, Safety & Environment Officer. This year the H&S fringe meeting includes guest speaker Judith Hackitt, Chair of the HSE.

HSE's Chair Judith Hackitt is main speaker at H&S Fringe meetingWriting in LTB483/09, Dave said, "I am pleased to announce the Health, Safety and Environment Department's programme of events and arrangements that have been organised at 2009 Annual Conference and we hope that delegates will make full use of this year’s provisions and take the time to attend our fringe meeting and visit the Health & Safety Stands during the week of conference where delegates can speak to experts and pick up copies of the various publications, booklets, pamphlets and information that will be made available. Once again these arrangements are organised for delegates’ benefit and in support of the Health, Safety and Environment Department's campaigning involvement on Occupational Health and Safety issues."

Clikc to downloadThe Health, Safety & Environment Department's popular lunch time fringe meeting takes place on Monday 8th June at 1 pm in the Solent Hall at the Bournemouth International Centre with the theme - "HSE Strategy, Worker Involvement and Safety Law Enforcement".

The Health and Safety fringe meeting features two very high profile speakers in Judith Hackett, Chair of the HSE, and the TUC's Health and Safety Officer and Trade Union HSE Commissioner, Hugh Robertson.

The meeting will discuss the new HSE strategy, Safety Law Enforcement and the new Legal Guidance on Worker involvement and the role of Safety Reps. Directors Duties and Corporate accountability will also no doubt feature.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Stand

The Health, Safety & Environment Department is pleased to announce the presence at 2009 Conference of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) who will have a stand in the Conference exhibition area.

Charged with the governmental responsibility to provide legislation, enforcement and guidance where it relates to issues of health and safety in the workplace, the HSE's job is to protect people against risks to health or safety arising out of work activities. The HSE mission is to "prevent death, injury and ill health in Great Britain’s workplaces."

The HSE with the stand is being organised by the Working at Height, Slips, Trips and Falls group at HSE HQ. Come and speak to the HSE experts and make use of the resources and information provided for your benefit.

In closing Dave Joyce said, " All delegates and visitors are encouraged to attend the fringe meeting, visit the Health and Safety Stands at the Conference Centre during the week and take away information and resources."
