International Workers Memorial Day 28 April 2009

Worldwide demonstrations and Memorial Events

For over 20 years, unions and campaigning groups have held WMD events to ‘Remember the Dead’ but also to ‘Fight for the Living’ by making clear the link between deaths and illness caused by work , non compliant to criminal employers, poor H&S laws and lax enforcement. Most people do not die of mystery ailments, or in tragic ‘accidents’.

They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn’t that important a  priority.

This is the stark message issued for Worker Memorial Day 2009 by hilda Palmer of GM Hazards.
Their leaflet entitled regarding International Workers Memorial Day can be downloaded here along with the guide for USRs here

Below is some of the details in that leaflet highlighting the annual memorial event:

Marking WMD 2008 worldwide there were over 10,000 union events in over 100 countries involving over 6 million workers. Make WMD 2009 bigger yet!
