SAVE SPODDEN VALLEY

Is this a SICK JOKE:

650 Homes and a Children's Nursery to be built on the world's largest asbestos textile factory?

The answer unfortunately is NO

Jason Morley, Assistant Secretary of the NW H&S Co-ord reports on the Asbestos awareness campaign to:

SAVE SPODDEN VALLEY

The Save Spodden Valley campaign is a community organisation, consisting of concerned members of the community from the area around Spodden Valley, Rochdale. They have united in an attempt to stop a land development company from converting the valley into a housing estate.

The reason for their opposition is that the valley was once the home of the world's largest asbestos factory. Much evidence gathered by the Spodden Valley pressure group shows that working practices at the time allowed huge quantities of asbestos to be dumped in the surrounding area. This fact alone should start the alarm bells ringing, however test completed by the developers have shown that there is "an absence of any asbestos contamination" at the site. Surely this would be unlikely at the worlds largest asbestos factory, wouldn't there be traces at the very least?

In the interest of public safety we urge that you take an interest and contact the Rochdale planning department (details on the link below) and your own MP.
