We Are Heading For A Catastrophic 2.4 Degree Increase In World Temperature

The latest report from scientists across the planet is that despite promises made at the Paris Climate Conference of 2015, the lack of progress in countries actually implementing their plans to hit the target of keeping global warming to max of 1.5 degrees; in reality the planet is heading for a catastrophic heating up of 2.4 degrees by 2030!

The result will be that over 1 Billion people could be exposed to fatal heat and humidity if the global average temperature rises by 2C above pre-industrial levels.

This is the conclusion of a new report from Climate Action Tracker (CAT), an an independent scientific analysis produced by two research organisations tracking climate action since 2009.

They track progress towards the globally agreed aim of holding warming well below 2°C, and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

Due to the real lack of progress over the last 6 years since the Paris agreement, much of this year’s climate conference will centre on delivering goals set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement, as well as moving the UN Climate Change process forward.

But the report condemns the efforts made so far by the international community:

'It is clear there is a massive credibility, action and commitment gap that casts a long and dark shadow of doubt over the net zero goals put forward by more than 140 countries, covering 90% of global emissions.'

Even further criticism of the international government's lack-lustre responses to the climate crisis include:

* Policy implementation on the ground is advancing at a snail’s pace.

* Targets for 2030 remain totally inadequate

* There has been insufficient momentum from leaders and governments to increase 2030 climate targets ahead of, and at, Glasgow

* Globally, around 90% of emissions are now covered by net zero targets. While these targets are an important signal, and some have accelerated governments’ climate action, the quality of most remains questionable.

* 2030 actions and targets are more often than not inconsistent with net zero goals

* The key drivers for this appalling outlook are coal and gas

The report makes for shocking reading and is something that everyone on the planet should read, rather than the public expressing anger at those demonstrating against Government apathy and lack of true commitment on managing the threat to human life from industrialisation and plunder of the Earth's resources.

E-Library under the category of 'Climate Change' or by clicking on the pic.

Meanwhile, it is recommended that you watch the Climate Tracker press conference at the bottom of the page, which clarifies aspects of the report and how data explains the dire consequences of not implementing measures to combat climate change and ensure the warming of the planet does not reach a 2.4C temperature increase.

The United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) prepares comprehensive Assessment Reports about knowledge on climate change, its causes, potential impacts and response options. The IPCC also produces Special Reports, which are an assessment on a specific issue and Methodology Reports, which provide practical guidelines for the preparation of greenhouse gas inventories.

Their report entitled 'Special Report: Global Warming 1.5C' is available from the E-Library under category, 'Climate Change'

The current tactic of blaming consumers and ignoring industry which produces anything it thinks will make major profits, irrespective of whether or not it is needed; will not do a thing to arrest the speeding up of climate change.

Just how many ways can you make a cup of coffee? Do we really need earth's resources and global warming manufacturing processes to make metal coffee pods, plastic sachets of washing powder, plastic bottles for water etc?

Re-inventing the wheel is the modus operandi of big business and consumerism in order to maximise profits for the few 1% on the planet who reap such profits whilst the global population suffers from ill-health, worsening climate, and life threatening incidences of flooding, landslip, rising oceans, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. All of which is exacerbated by the heating up of the planet.

Unless and until manufacturers are made to 'climate proof' their products and inventions which produce waste and 'greenhouse' gases when manufactured and add even further waste when disposed of; there is little chance of the planet averting disaster with regards to sustaining human life.
