On a sunny day in July 2024 in Southport at a dance event for girls enjoying Taylor Swift music; three little girls were stabbed to death by a lone individual wielding a knife. For one postal worker and CWU member, David Stancombe and his family, their lives will never be the same again. His seven-year-old daughter, Elsie Dot, died alongside Bebe King, six, and nine-year-old Alice de Silva Aguiar after being attacked by the lone assailant. The CWU North West Region responded once the news broke that one of the three little girls in this terrible and senseless act, was NW postman and CWU member David Stancombe's daughter: Elsie Dot. Posting the CWU North West Region's tribute to Elsie and her family on social media, Mark Holt, the Region's Health & Safety Lead; wrote: 'Heartbreaking. The whole CWU and Royal Mail family will wrap our arms around David Stancombe. CWU's social media channels were full of messages of sadness and recognition of the youth, and character of what her family called their seven year old daughter; 'little dot'. CWU General Secretary Dave Ward, issued the following statement via letter to branches (LTB254/24): 'It is with deepest regret that we inform you that postal worker and CWU member David Stancombe from Southport Delivery Office lost his beautiful daughter Elsie Dot in the evil and appalling attack in the town on Monday 29th July. The Funeral, or better known as 'Elsie's Day' by her parents who wanted the day to be full of the things that their daughter loved - music and colour - as a celebration of her life; took place at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral on Friday 23rd August 2024. Mourners heard how Elsie had brought "light, love and joy to so many lives". Both the editor of this website and the North West BT Unions Health & Safety Co-ord joins with those paying tribute to the life of Elsie Dot Stancombe, and offers our heartfelt support and love to David Stancombe and his family during what must be a period of excruciating pain as they grieve for the loss of their innocent little girl.
