CWU's Equal Opportunities Department is in the process of circulating information, which we feel may be of benefit to all their members. One of the first items is the fact sheet pictured to the left regarding Access to Work, which is a government run scheme to assist people who fall within the DDA to overcome barriers that they may experience getting work, traveling to work and in the workplace. All Union Safety Reps would be advised to read the detail of this guidance as it provides information which may well be pertinent to individual members circumstances that USRs come across in their day to day work. According to the Government's website, Direct Gov, Access to Work might pay towards the equipment you need at work, adapting premises to meet your needs, or a support worker. It can also pay towards the cost of getting to work if you cannot use public transport. It is the responsibility of your employer - or you, if you are self-employed - to arrange the agreed support and buy the necessary equipment. Your employer can then claim repayment of the approved costs from Access to Work. The leaflet can be download by clicking on the pic above. Access the government website here Source: CWU / Direct Gov
