BT Engineer Killed on Roadside
CWU colleagues are mourning the loss of BT engineer David Rennison who was killed in June when he was hit by a van, which mounted the grass verge where he was working.
David, 46, had worked for BT for 19 years and was a member of the Portsmouth, West Sussex and Isle of Wight Branch.
David was a jointer involved in second stage uplift repair, and was working on a notorious stretch of the A272 near Billingshurst, where 75 people have been injured in crashes in the last three years.
Branch secretary Ken Woolley said: “David was known to be a quiet person who always willingly helped people. He always had a smile and was a cheerful, well-respected and popular person, as borne out by the amount of people who attended his funeral."
The union’s national health and safety officer Dave Joyce said David died at the scene: “We are working with BT and carrying out a full, thorough investigation. The union's condolences go to his partner and relatives from whom he has been taken before his time."
