HSE's New Merseyside Office Opened

The HSE's new Merseyside office at Redgrave Court in Bootle, was opened today (19th July) by HRH The Duke of York .

The HSE employs around 4,000 staff, of whom approximately 1,400 work in Bootle, along with around 100 staff on contract, providing IT and Facilities Management services. Until the move to Redgrave Court, HSE's Bootle staff were previously housed in six separate 1960s office blocks.

The £57million Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project provides modern serviced accommodation for 1,500 people in an open plan format spread over 24,000 square metres in a mix of four and five storey blocks. It provides excellent, modern working conditions that have encouraged more efficient communication and a less hierarchical and more open organisation.

Construction commenced in September 2003, and the building was fully occupied by the end of February 2006.

Redgrave Court was named after Alexander Redgrave - chosen by staff competition - who was the first HM Chief Inspector of Factories in 1878.

During his visit to Redgrave Court, The Duke of York was accompanied by HSE Chief Executive Geoffrey Podger, the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Thomas E Mann, Mayoress Mrs Jean Lilley and Sefton Council's Chief Executive, Graham Haywood.

The tour party also included Health and Safety Commissioner Hugh Robertson, HSE's Director of Resources and Planning, Vivienne Dews, Redgrave Court Project Director, Steve Dennis, and Project Manager Steve Bailey.
